Antrim Library will host a photography exhibition by Rashid Khaidanov from Tuesday 13 June to 8 July, to mark Refugee Week 2017.
This event has been organised by Beyond Skin in association LibrariesNI and Aspect Media.
Rashid who is originally from Kazakhstan has been living in Belfast for the past five years with his wife and daughter. Both he and his wife have been very active in the voluntary sector in Belfast.
Rashid’s previous photography portfolio includes big names such as The Scorpions, Aerosmith, Rammstein, David Vendetta and National Geographic Russia. He has been working with the organisation Beyond Skin as a photographer since summer 2016 and he is currently the visual director of the Orchestre des Réfugiés et Amis project.
This exhibition features his breath-taking landscape pictures of Northern Ireland which caught the eye of National Geographic UK in February this year when Rashid was shortlisted and became the winner of the National Geographic Traveller Award 2017.
Although Rashid came to Northern Ireland as a refugee he wishes to show through this exhibition his skills as a professional photographer and his Identity as an artist. Capturing the place he now calls home in its splendid beauty it is a reminder to us all that the land belongs to Mother Nature and we all must focus on sharing the responsibility to preserve it.
