A diversity & global education music project through a partnership between children in two post conflict countries.

Designed and delivered by the organizations Beyond Skin and The Music Project, new music is created using new and simple technology to produce audio/visual recordings featuring young people from two countries on the same track. Through the process young people exchange handmade gifts, letters and information about their own cultures.

The Growing Music Project

The Growing Music Project

Fusing Music, Education & Environment

The Growing Music Project is an excellent example of exploring the links between culture, climate, science, music and our environment.

The project presents opportunities for people to actively engage with the ideas and processes involved in cultivating plants and making them into musical instruments.

It creates and inspires an awareness of how environment influences all aspects of our lives and how this awareness allows us to influence our own environments.

The project also encourages the development of 'back to basics' skills - working with raw materials and physical objects - which stands in contrast to the almost 'in-built' digital skills that are now most familiar to people - especially children - who accept it as the normal.

"The world is a sphere not a box..."
Thinking outside the box Beyond Skin uses the Arts as the learning instrument and through a diverse team of artists and creative people we develop new inventive ways of learning in contrast to traditional academic approaches. This enables people of all abilities and cultural backgrounds to participate and interact in a creative safe space were language, literacy skills, mental and physical abilities are not barriers for learning, active citizenship and self-expression.

These artistic learning approaches also reflect the essence of global education in relation to our connection and relationship with the physical earth & our fellow human beings.
"As the sum total of our ancestors, most of us have lost the ability to make fire with nothing but a stick and bit of wood... We have forgotten how to survive without buying what we need. We have also forgotten that, not only do we depend upon each other, but that others depend upon us."
