Although
throughout the journey many individuals & groups have
given their support and donations inkind to this film project,
three main parties give us the financial support to physically
make it happen. This article is not to highlight the risk
of financing a project with the possibilty that it might fail
but more so taking the risk it may succeed!
Two
of the three funders behind 'journey of equals' are Belfast
City Council (Good Relations Unit) & the Community Relations
Council, both of which played a key role in the development
of the 'Motion' project through first funding the '1 Giant
Leap Belfast' project in 2004. This cause & effect output
has probably been missed from evaluations and visible evidence
but in real terms the concept is frightening that an agreement
in a boardroom to fund a project could shape and change many
lives.
The
main element has been the relationships that have been formed
& lost through this decision which in turn has dictated
the following for some individuals...
* their choice where to live
* who they socialise & live with
* their career choice
* their social values
* their level of confidence
* their development of skills
On
a group level the following outcomes have resulted from that
decision to fund '1 Giant Leap Belfast' in 2004
* the formation of bands
* the starting up of new businesses
* formation of new partnerships
* the development of cross cultural programs
* the development of international relations
Passion
can achieve alot but the partnership to make things happen
is more complete when those who can, bring to the table financial
support. It is no secret that in 2005 £12,000 helped
to fund an idea called Motion. At the time of this film release
(2008), three years later the Motion project has developed
into a full touring program with the setting up of the limited
company 'Motion2Music', involving employment and training
for over 60 musicians representing 19 countries directly effecting
over 14,000 people through many projects in schools &
communities. The work continues and grows & most would
agree the money was well invested in people not the idea.
A
final message to the funders of this film (Belfast City Council,
Community Relations Council & Community Foundation for
Northern Ireland).
"you
will never know the true extent of what you have helped to
provide"
