"exploring
the lives of individuals united through music"
Northern
Ireland, a place where conflict has been embedded in history
between two main religions.
So what happens when the world arrives bringing new cultures,
religions and traditions?
Are we really all that different or do we have more in common
than we realize?
Exploring
the human spirit that we all share regardless of our individuality,
this film is a snapshot of a two year journey featuring musicians
living within Northern Ireland representing various communities
whose lives have collided through the good relations music
project 'Motion'.
The
purpose of the film is to address racism & sectarianism
by revealing an understanding and similarities between people
from different backgrounds who share one common interest,
music.
Every
human being is on a journey to find their place in the world
and though 'Journey of Equals' uses music as a common thread,
the greater underlying message is that we ALL have the need
to feel valued in participating in the theatre of life.
In
relation to the environment of Northern Ireland at the release
time of this film (2008) the journey is by far but over. As
a community we may be getting a fresh opportunity to meet
the world but in reality we haven't even left the station
yet. The journey is just beginning...
The
project has been developed through a series of workshops with
participation with musicians representing various cultural
backgrounds, directed & produced by Carol Moore in partnership
with organisation 'Beyond Skin'.
