“‘“Thanks very much Beyond Skin for recommending my book Sound System: The Political Power of Music. The book looks at a number of examples of music and politics converging throughout history and across cultures. It poses the questions: How can we use music to promote dialogue and progressive ideas? How can we ensure that music enriches the lives of all of us, rather than just lines the pockets of the few? It is, in part, a call to action, born of the belief that we can create a better world and that culture has a very important role to play in that struggle.’” - Dave Randall
“Sound System is the story of one musician's journey to discover what makes music so powerful. Years of touring, playing and protesting have given Dave Randall a unique insider's view of the music industry, enabling him to shed light on the secrets of celebrity, commodification and culture. He finds remarkable examples of music as a force for social change as well as something that has been used to keep people in their place throughout history. This is a book of raves, riots and revolution.”
Dave Randall is a musician, writer and activist. He has contributed to Grammy Award winning albums by Dido and toured the world playing guitar with Faithless, Sinead O'Connor, Emiliana Torrini and others.
