Currently music and creative express is forbidden in Afghanistan. Musicians/Artists, Women and People from LQBTQ+ communities face daily risks of beatings or being killed. Women have no rights whatsoever.
The Festival will feature two of our Afghan friends this year.

Recognized in the BBC 100 Women list 2021 Basira Paigham is a gender equality activist who was forced to move to Ireland in 2021 after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. A board member of an Afghan LGBT organization, AELSO (Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization) gender manager.

NOOR ARZHANG EXHIBITION
3rd - 13th August St Mary's University College Belfast.
Presenting the works of Noor Arzhang, an Afghan artist from Kabul. Since August 2021 with music and arts forbidden by the Taliban, Noor is unable to showcase his work in Afghanistan. The exhbition is in solidarity with Noor and other artists giving them the freedom and space for their creative expression. The exhibition will feature the orginal paintings rescued from destruction and street art prints. A very speical thank-you to all the private donors who have helped.
