A global choir, united in song. Make Music Day 21 June

This Make Music Day, singers across the globe will come together for Taking Flight — an innovative choral experience connecting communities through music.

Belfast will be hosting the U.K. and Ireland part of the international broadcast hosted by Beyond Skin in partnership with Accidental Theatre and the Cairde Community Choir conducted by musician and Soultrane Festival founder Siobhan Brown.

On June 21, at exactly the same time in venues around the world – in Canada, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Turkey, U.S, the U.K.and Ireland,.– members of the public will gather to learn a popular song on the spot, in multi-part harmony. After this rehearsal, a global streaming broadcast will begin, where each choir will perform their song live, taking turns so that every participating country can watch every other country’s live performance on a large screen at the front of each room.

Choral directors in each country will select their own chosen song and  on the theme of “Taking Flight.” the event will close with a collective rendition of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” sung by every group in harmony around the world.

Belfast will broadcast live from Accidental Theatre 7.10pm.  Rehearsals from 4pm. To help us plan refreshments, the event is ticketed (free) and released soon www.accidentaltheatre.co.uk if you wish to take part.

Make Music Day is a huge celebration of music making around the world on June 21st.  Every year people and organisations from 1,000 towns and cities in 120 countries create events to share their music.  All Make Music Day events are free. Music Day began in France with Féte de la Musique.
