Yalda, or Shab-e Yalda, is an ancient Persian festival celebrated on the winter solstice (the longest night) to mark the rebirth of the sun and the triumph of light over darkness, with families gathering to share symbolic red fruits (pomegranates, watermelon), nuts, sweets, recite poetry (especially Hafez), tell stories, and stay up until dawn, symbolizing hope and new beginnings. Rooted in Zoroastrian traditions, it's a cherished cultural event in Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia, emphasizing community, nature, and resilience.
